EDINBURGH
ZOO
Edinburgh Zoo is part of the Royal
Zoological Society of Scotland, the registered charity
which also runs the Highland Wildlife Park. Its aim
is "to inspire and excite our visitors with the
wonder of living animals, and so to promote the conservation
of threatened species and habitats". Edinburgh
Zoo opened in 1913, in leafy hillside parkland just
ten minutes from the centre of Edinburgh.
Recognised as one of the
world’s leading zoos, it is involved in many conservation
breeding programmes and gives the highest priority to
the welfare, both physical and behavioural, of the animals
in its care. With a large education department and close
research links with universities and colleges in the
UK and abroad, Edinburgh Zoo is also one of the top
tourist attractions in Scotland. For more information
